Typing Test: Elephant Trunks

Time: 1 Minute
Skill Level: Beginner

Smelling, drinking, eating, snorkeling, greeting, courting . . . is there anything an elephant’s trunk isn’t used for? This interesting typing test about elephants and their proboscises (er, probosci?) is 187 words long.

This test is rated simple-to-medium in difficulty. You’ll encounter an apostrophe or two on the first line; do you already know where to find the apostrophe key? Here’s a quick tutorial hint for this typing test: The apostrophe is an extension of the home row, directly to the right of the semi-colon ( ; ). You’ll also run into a couple of numbers – that is, as long as you type faster than 50 words per minute.

Remember to press the enter key twice between paragraphs.

You will have a full minute to type the test content. After you click the “Start Typing” button, you can take your time to situate yourself and comfortably locate the home row keys with your fingertips; time will not begin counting down before you actually start typing.

Typing Tip

Posture is a simple key to typing faster. Are you positioned properly to allow your fingers to flow freely over the keyboard? Just improving your posture can help you maximize your peak potential words-per-minute. Sit up straight and square your shoulders to the keyboard. If you are positioned properly, you should feel comfortable just resting your fingers on the home row keys, and you should be able to easily reach every letter. Adjust your position until you can comfortably reach all of the keys from the home row position.
