Typing Test: Moby Dick

Time: 1 Minute
Skill Level: Expert

Taken from the American classic Moby Dick, this free typing test is fairly complicated, and will test your keyboarding skills to the max. Written by Herman Melville and first published in 1851, the style of this excerpt is a bit ponderous with some big complicated words as well as a higher number of commas and semi-colons than your typical typing test. Oh yes, there are also some unexpected capital letters, so be ready to reach for the shift key as well.

The word count for this test is more than 200, so don’t expect to finish it the first time you take it. If you need more touch-typing practice, spend a little time on Typing Practice: Top and Bottom Row Keys, which will get you more up to speed. But you may take this test as many times as you like.

This timed typing test will last for exactly one minute.  Click the start button below, and limber up your typing fingers – time will begin counting when you type the first letter. Any errors will be deducted from your net words per minute, but you are required to correct errors before moving on, so pay attention to the red underscore which indicates a miss-key.

Good luck with your test. Now, start typing!
